Throughout my life, I’ve been blessed by opportunities to be able to reach my goals. Whether a National Championship with my beloved Buckeyes or Rookie of the Year with the Green Bay Packers, I have been rewarded with great success. Certainly my kidney transplant of November 28, 2001 can be added to the list.

For me, as for other kidney recipients, it made the difference between a difficult life on dialysis and the normal life I now live.

Since I left the Packers, no effort has been as satisfying and important to me as the work of my foundation. The ESPN piece below tells you how became involved in the cause. Since 2002, we have been providing help and hope to those impacted by kidney disease.  Our free screenings and classes educate, our food vouchers sustain patients on dialysis, and our donor registration drives seek to reduce the wait for all organs.

I am appealing to you for a small donation that will mean big relief for people who wait on the organ transplant list. I waited for an organ, received one, and have spent the last 10 years working to ease and shorten the wait for others. I know a number of causes compete for your resources—but you could not find a more worthy or appreciative group than those who listen for their pagers to go off, telling them that their wait for an organ is over.  Please help keep them healthy until that happens. Take a minute to make a difference today:

  • Go to www.FanForLife.org to learn about FanForLife.
  • Choose a team—either one started by someone you know, or my “Acts of Random Kindness”.
  • Decide what you can spare, and donate online through PayPal or credit card
  • If you are from California, please sign up as an organ donor on the FanForLife site. If you are from out of state, visit www.donatelifeamerica.org and register your intentions.
